Forward in Faith
Forward in Faith exists to support the work of The Society (or more fully, The Society under the patronage of Saint Wilfrid and Saint Hilda) and to renew the Church in the historic faith. It is committed to the following beliefs and theological principles of the Faith:
- We are committed to the catholic faith as the Church of England received it, and to proclaiming it afresh in this generation.
- We uphold catholic order and the catholic doctrine of the Sacraments, and in particular the threefold ministry in historic succession, which the Church of England shares with the Church throughout the world and across the ages.
- We long for the visible unity of Christ’s Church, and especially for communion between the Church of England and the rest of the Western Church.
As a Forward in Faith Parish, we are passionate about teaching the catholic faith and the catholic doctrines of the Sacraments as we have received them from hundreds of years of magisterial teaching, formed and informed by the saints and guided by the Holy Spirit.
For these reasons, Forward in Faith supports and upholds the sacraments as they have been inherited and are now practiced in the Church of England in the Society, especially the traditional teaching of the Priesthood. In light of this it is unable in good conscience to accept changes to teaching of the priesthood through the ordination of women as priests and bishops.
